Industrial symbiosis of anaerobic digestion and pyrolysis: Performances and agricultural interest of coupling biochar and liquid digestate

The sustainability of the anaerobic digestion industry is closely related to proper digestate disposal. In this study, an innovative cascading biorefinery concept coupling and subsequent pyrolysis was investigated with aim enhancing energy recovery improving fertilizers from organic wastes. Continuous co-digestion quinoa residues wastewater sludge (45/55% VS) exhibited good stability a methane production 219 NL CH4/kg VS. Subsequent solid carried out (at 500 °C, 1 h, 10 °C/min), resulting in products distribution 40 wt% biochar, 36 bio-oil, 24 syngas. phase (OP) bio-oil syngas higher lower heating values 34 MJ/kg 11.8 MJ/Nm3, respectively. potential synergy biochar liquid (LD) for agronomic purposes investigated.
